## The hierarchy of fragility
We recognize that Earth's biosphere is deeply interdependent.
We are all part of a living system.
Each, we are individual, and self-interested. Our core is vulnerable and must be protected.
We need layers and cycles of "reasssurance" to
Between two heartbeats, we have mere seconds—a delicate interval marking life from silence.
Without breath, we linger only minutes
—our fragile lungs urgently pulling at the invisible thread of air.
Without water, we endure days
— each drop a quiet guardian against the encroaching drought of existence.
Without sleep, our minds fracture within a mere week
—dreams unraveling into waking delirium.
Without sustenance, our bodies persist for weeks
, yet hunger slowly hollows our strength and spirit.
Without shelter, exposure claims us over months
—the elements patiently stripping our resistance away.
Without connection and touch, loneliness erodes our hearts within years
—a silent decay of the soul.
Without purpose, meaning, or a sense of belonging, we drift indefinitely
—alive, yet yearning, in perpetual search.

Each layer affords us increased agency, with which we can exercise our free will
Like a diver returning to the surface to breathe, then venturing down into the unfamiliar world of the waves to seek their treasure. Each surplus from the under layer affords us the ability to explore in the next. Because we are well at our core, our agency encourages us to seek the depths, and to learn to become familiar with it.
## Interdependence with Nature
In addition to being responsible for protecting ourselves, we must recognize that we are interdependent on other systems
We sometimes take, and sometimes give
We sometimes discover from nature, we sometimes design from our imaginations and create what we need
As humans, we use our surpluses to explore, build knowledge, use tools,
form relationships, and interact with other systems:
We befriend dogs to provide us with companionship and herd our sheep
We partner with trees sowing generations of seeds in exchange for ripe fruit
We for networks of trade between farmers, grain millers, and bakers
Sometimes our relationships are mutualistic
Sometimes we extract rocks from quarries
The boulders don't seem to mind, but they do have impacts on other systems
even though the rocks don't have as much ability to defend its own rights, surely we should have some understanding for how we govern it’s fair use.
See [[Protecting the rights of nonliving things]]
In order to live together, we must find clever ways to protect our own interests, trade and transact with others in ways that aren't harmful, and give mechanisms for those with less voice and agency to protect their own interests in ways that aren't harmful to others in accordance with the [[Principles of Cooperation]]
We want to create productivity and balance complex flows of supply and demand for a huge number of raw materials, goods, services, and refined products. We want to create the incentive networks for these supply chain webs and ecosystems to flourish, and provide mechanisms to prevent exploitation.
We propose the Economic Wilds, a separately governed system responsible for the regenerative production of raw materials, energy, and the stewardship of our natural resources and ecosphere.
## Refinement: producing efficiency
Humans use tools to expand our agency and shape the world
Our goal is to design resilient systems which allow lots of life with Agency to exist, protect their vulnerable cores with
We must design social, economic, and knowledge frameworks that safeguard the planet’s ecosystems while advancing human wellbeing in tandem — aligning with the principles of [[The Human City]], [[The Economic Wilds]], and the [[Knowledge Commons]].
# Things to Protect
## Human Wellbeing
- Basic physiological needs (food, water, shelter, sleep)
- Safety and security (physical safety, health, financial stability)
- Love and belonging (relationships, community, connection)
- Esteem and recognition (self-worth, achievement, respect)
- Self-actualization (reaching full potential, creativity, purpose)
## Regenerative natural systems
- Diversity of niches creates richness
- Create room for non-exploitative interdependence
- zero-waste == efficient
- Create closed-loop economic systems
- Carbon coin
## Capability Enhancement
- System to index knowledge using evidence-oriented methods
- e.g., [[ScienceChain]] and other open research tools
- Encourage open collaboration and shared attribution within the [[Knowledge Commons]]
# The Economic Engine
## Mutual incentive is the basis for cooperation
- Emphasize regenerative economic systems aligning with the principles of [[The Economic Wilds]]
- Promote stable, transparent tokens (e.g., [[Carbon Coin]]) to foster synergy between ecological stewardship and robust trade
We live in a world full of living things
Everything is trying to exist and build a sense security for itself
